Minor Party Spoilers

We were having some dialogue on this page in recent days about the impact of third party candidates. Note that a Green Party candidate has more than 25,000 votes in the Virginia Senate race -- more than enough to swing that race (and with it, perhaps, control of the U.S. Senate).

Peter Hutchinson has 7 percent of the vote in Minnesota, any fraction of which would have been enough to make a difference in the nearly-tied Pawlenty-Hatch race for governor.

About

Written and compiled by staff writers and editors, GOVERNING View is an on-the-ground, and sometimes behind-the-scenes, look at the topics we're covering in print and online. From notes on what's up in statehouses, county courthouses and city halls, to encounters with people, places and things, GOVERNING View is a window into the side of state and local government you don't always see.
