Is Your Governor Fat?
In the context of the discussion in New Jersey, Nate Silver has a list of which governors could stand to lose a few pounds.
Silver's post exemplifies something I've thought for a while: Just as Inuits (supposedly) have lots of words for snow, Americans have a lot of words for fat. We have plump, chubby, obese, corpulent, big-boned, rotund, heavy-set, paunchy, pudgy, portly, chunky, tubby, heavy, etc.
By the way, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who Silver describes as "Flintstonian," has lost 50 pounds during his state's budget impasse this year. That's a testament to Rendell's willpower, but also a testament to the length of the budget impasse.
