IN House Update

Ed Feigenbaum comes through with notes from the field:

HOUSE AND SENATE : We're only watching one Senate races, SD 05, and Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R) leads narrowly in early returns. Here are the House races we're keeping tabs on (the only ones we think could flip):

  Held By Ds
HD 05  Fry (D) . . . Rs thought they had a shot here; we didn't agree, and they don't appear to have any traction.
HD 26  Open Seat . . . we saw this seat as a likely flip to Rs; early returns show Repubs behind.
HD 45  Tincher (D) . . . we didn't see Ds with a problem here, and that appears to be confirmed.
HD 63  Open Seat . . . we thought this will flip to Rs and it is headed that way.
HD 68  Bischoff (D) . . . Rs put this district on the map in the last week, but Ds seems safe.
HD 72  Cochran (D) . . . Rs made a late push here, and Rs say at 8:00 p.m. that they've won it.
HD 75  Avery (D) . . . a surprise late GOP effort here; Ds take an initial lead.

  Held by Rs
HD 15  Lehe (R) . . . Ds thought they had a shot in rematch, this continues to be neck-and-neck.
HD 31  Harris (R) . . . Ds had this as a top target and maintain a decent lead in early numbers, but Grant County will be the key.
HD 33  Davis (R) . . . spirited Demo challenge appears to fall short.
HD 44  Thomas (R) . . . we saw this as a D pick-up, and we seem to be correct.
HD 45  Borders (R) . . . Ds put a lot of $$ in here, and in the last week, we thought this could be the surprise of the cycle; it may well be.
HD 89  Open Seat . . . Ds had expected to win this seat and both sides spent lots of cash; Ds are starting to pick up more votes here.
HD 97  Elrod (R) . . . Ds saw this as a win until incumbent rejoined the fray; they still thought they would win, and are up at first blush.

About

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
