Will Sarah Palin -- who campaigned for Sen. Saxby Chambliss in Georgia yesterday -- seek a Senate seat of her own?
That has seemed less likely since the slow-count defeat of Sen. Ted Stevens, a convicted felon Palin might have replaced. But Politico thinks Palin could have her eye on the state's other seat, which will come up in 2010.
The current occupant, Lisa Murkowski, is the daughter of former Gov. Frank Murkowski, whom Palin unseated in 2006.
"If she wants to be president, I don't think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the United States Senate," Murkowski said.
Asked Monday to respond to Murkowski's comments, Palin's communications coordinator, Kate Morgan, said only, "The governor has never stated her intention or desire to run for that office."
