Charlotte Mayor: Still Close, But Democrat Leads

Posted by Josh Goodman

While there are about a million things going on at once right now, I'm somewhat transfixed by this mayoral race in Charlotte, where Democrat Anthony Foxx is now up by a couple of thousand votes, with only 27 precincts left.

For context, Charlotte is definitely a Democratic-leaning city, but it's had a series of Republican mayors dating back to 1987. This would seem to be an odd year for it to break the Democratic drought, but it is an open-seat race -- Pat McCrory, the current mayor (and Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2008) didn't run again.

We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
