GOVERNING has celebrated extraordinary public servants every year since 1994. We are now accepting nominations for this year's awards in November.

GOVERNING's Public Officials of the Year are recognized for their distinguished leadership, strong management expertise, good governance and notable positive impact. Elected, appointed and career officials from any branch of any state or local government are eligible.

Last year, we honored officials like former Utah state lawmaker Dan Liljenquist, who is now challenging longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch for his seat in Congress. We also honored Dearborn, Mich., Police Chief Ron Haddad for the strong, positive relationships he built between residents and law enforcement in the nation’s most concentrated Arab community. These are just two of the nine recipients we honored for their contributions to public service.

Submit your nominations by Friday, June 1, 2012. Nominations are evaluated by a selection committee. Winners will be announced this fall.
