Missoula Mayor John Engen doesn’t want to start slapping fines on people who don’t shovel their sidewalks – but some councilors are calling for the $25 to $50 penalties.

The mayor made his remarks Wednesday to the Public Works Committee, which has been discussing ways to increase the number of people who shovel the snow off their sidewalks this winter.
