The number of people who died in traffic crashes last year, a 10.5 percent increase from 2020. Americans drove about 325 billion miles in 2021, about 11.2 percent more than the year previous, which contributed to the increase in deaths. Pedestrian deaths also increased 17 percent in the first half of 2021.
