The air quality index of New York as of 2:44 p.m. Eastern on June 8, which is far above the threshold of 301 AQI which denotes “hazardous air quality,” as smoke from Canadian wildfires travels south by atmospheric currents. The largest city with the next-worst air quality in the world was Delhi, India, with a rating of just 168 at the time. New York health officials have warned residents to “think very carefully” about going outdoors.
