The length in miles of the New Orleans storm shield just completed by the Army Corps of Engineers, 17 years after Hurricane Katrina flooded the city. The ring of floodgates, strengthened levees and other protections is designed to hold back a storm surge of about 30 feet around New Orleans and suburbs in three parishes.
