Governing compiled 2010 American Community Survey estimates on commuting habits for more than 400 U.S. cities, towns and other census-designated places.

Larger icons represent areas with higher total percentages of residents who either walk, bike, use public transit or other alternate means of transportation besides driving as their primary method of commuting to work. The Census Bureau's survey recorded a single transportation type for a person's longest distance traveled, so workers riding bikes to subways typically count only as public transit commuters.

Click a marker to display a city's 2010 data. Those with some Internet browsers will need to zoom in before clicking a city. Zoom out or pan the map to view Alaska, Hawaii and other areas of the country. Data was not released for cities with insufficient responses for one-year estimates.
