With Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits set to lapse next week, Schumer accused Republicans of “weaponizing hunger” by refusing to draw from a contingency fund to sustain payments for the 41 million Americans who rely on the program. Senate Democrats introduced legislation Wednesday to temporarily fund both SNAP and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program until the shutdown ends.
