Number of people arrested or cited for illegal lodging in San Francisco between July 2024 and July 2025. That’s more than 10 times the number during the previous year. The surge reflects the city’s aggressive use of new authority granted by the U.S. Supreme Court to clear homeless encampments. In June, San Francisco reported its lowest count of tents and encampment structures since the pandemic, an 85 percent drop from the peak in April 2020.
