Number of new laws that took effect in Texas on Sept. 1. They are part of the 1,155 bills signed by Gov. Greg Abbott during the regular legislative session, covering issues from education and water infrastructure to energy oversight and property taxes. Others will take effect later, including stricter bail policies and a $3 billion dementia research fund.
