Share of Americans who say it is acceptable to criticize living public figures, according to a Sept. 16 YouGov survey conducted just days after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed at Utah Valley University. Only 16% said such criticism is unacceptable. A smaller majority, 52%, said it is permissible to censure public figures who have been dead for some time, though support dropped sharply among Republicans.
