Share of Miami-Dade households below the ALICE — asset-limited, income constrained, employed — threshold, according to a new United Way Miami report. Those classified as ALICE are people who work, often earning too much to qualify for state assistance, but effectively live paycheck to paycheck. Statewide, 47 percent of households fall into the same category, struggling to make ends meet despite working. In only three states — Louisiana, Mississippi and New York — are greater percentages of residents under more economic strain.
