The share of U.S. flight delays now caused by air traffic control staffing shortages, according to the Federal Aviation Administration — up sharply from the usual 5 percent as the federal shutdown enters its second week. Major airports in Dallas; Chicago; Nashville; and Washington, D.C., have seen widespread disruptions as controllers work without pay and more call out sick. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said even a small number of absences can create “massive disruption,” with Newark Liberty International Airport reporting delays of more than an hour Thursday.
