Enrollment decline in Alabama’s K-12 schools for the 2025-26 school year, a decrease of 0.8 percent and the biggest enrollment drop in 40 years. State Schools Superintendent Eric Mackey attributed the decline to students using the state’s voucher-like program for private schools or homeschooling and some 2,100 students who were enrolled but “just didn’t show up.”
