That’s how many states, plus Washington, D.C., are rejecting at least some federal vaccine guidance as debate intensifies over childhood immunization policy. The shift follows changes to federal recommendations under Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose department reduced the number of routine childhood vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 13 to 7 earlier this year. The response has largely followed partisan lines, with every state led by a Democratic governor rejecting the revised federal guidance while many Republican-led states have continued to follow it.
