The number of deaths overall per 100,000 live births across the U.S. in 2022, significantly lower from 2021’s maternal mortality rate (32.9) but still much higher than the rate of other wealthy countries. The rate for Black women was 49.5 deaths per 100,000 births while the rate for white women was just 19.
