The year in which the current Maine license plate featuring the chickadee was introduced. A new plate design was unveiled on Monday, Feb. 26. It features a tall green pine and the North Star, two icons on the state’s original flag in 1901. State voters will decide in November whether to adopt a similar design for a new state flag.
