The number of job cuts announced by California employers from January to November, a nearly 14 percent increase from the same period last year, according to new data from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Nationwide, employers have announced 1.17 million cuts so far this year — up 54 percent and the highest level since the mass layoffs of 2020. The last time job cuts reached this level outside a pandemic was 2009.
