The number of criminal cases mishandled by a DNA scientist with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Of the thousand-plus cases known to have DNA data deleted, omitted or manipulated by Yvonne “Missy” Woods over a 29-year career, 46 percent involved sexual assault, 21 percent were burglaries and 13 percent were homicides. Last week, the legislature passed a bill to mandate reports of misconduct by crime lab employees.
