“Every now and then you have to get new chickens anyway.”

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, regarding his decision to leave his chickens at the Governor’s Mansion at the end of his term next month. He had intended to take the chickens home with him to Amite when he left office, but after Gov.-elect Jeff Landry asked to keep the chickens during a tour of the Mansion grounds, Edwards agreed to leave them. The chickens and their coop were added to the Mansion’s grounds in 2016 shortly after Edwards took office. Edwards paid for the coop and the hens out of his own pocket.
