The total sales-tax tab, if Arizona's Prop. 100 passes. The temporary 1-cent-per-dollar increase in the state sales tax is expected to raise about $1 billion a year. Two thirds of the money would be dedicated to education, while the remaining third would be split between public safety and health and human services. If Arizona voters fail to approve the proposed sales-tax hike, the state's courts, prisons and police stand to lose more than $90 million in critical funding, and much of the burden would be shifted to counties.
