The amount that East Point, Ga., has lost in a 2021 email scam after someone hacked the city’s email system and sent four fake invoices from city email addresses. Employees paid a total of $1,219,287 but city officials were able to recover the fourth wire transfer of $434,197 after realizing the invoices were fake.
