The average long-term U.S. mortgage rates this week, as reported by mortgage buyer Freddie Mac; last year at this time, the rate was at just 3.09 percent. The average rate on 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages also increased this week to 6.23 percent, as compared to 6.09 percent last week.
