The number of people who have died in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons over the past decade; a quarter of those deaths have occurred at the Butner Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, N.C. Recent data shows that sick inmates are going for a long time without care; more than a dozen waited months or even years for treatment. More people in BOP custody died of cancer than any other cause from 2009 to 2020.
