The estimated number of people who have been subjected to police use of force in 2019 and 2020 in Connecticut; 38 percent of whom were Black, 33 percent were white and 20 percent were Hispanic. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 13 percent of the state’s population is Black and 18 percent Hispanic, though analysts have warned that there were limitations within the data’s reporting and it was “insufficient” to make a comprehensive assessment of the police’s use of force. This is the first time the state has released this type of data.
