Mary Ann Dickinson is the president and CEO of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, a nonprofit that works with 500 water utilities, water-conservation professionals in business and industry, planners, regulators, and consumers. She is also executive director of the California Water Efficiency Partnership, a Sacramento-based chapter of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, and serves as co-chair of the Water and Planning Network at the American Planning Association.

Previously, Dickenson worked at the California Urban Water Conservation Council, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. A graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in environmental planning, she has authored numerous publications on water conservation, land use planning and natural resources management.

Our lawns guzzle too much of it. There's a lot we can do to reduce outdoor water use without losing the landscapes we enjoy.
