Kevin G. Burt has served in all levels of government, beginning as a volunteer firefighter during his undergraduate studies at Indiana University, where he received a bachelor's degree in public-affairs management. After serving in state government and with the U.S. Coast Guard, he began service on the federal level as a civilian.

Burt received a master's degree in public administration from American Military University and currently is pursuing a master's degree in international relations from Webster University.

When Preparedness for Violence Is Too Real

Exercises such as "active-shooter" drills can expose people to unnecessary trauma. We shouldn't forget about the need to shield the innocent from fear.
