John Born is the director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Appointed in 2013 by Gov. John R. Kasich, Born previously served as colonel and superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, capping a 26-year law-enforcement career.

Born holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in social science from from Ohio University. He completed the FBI's National Executive Institute, governance training at the Harvard Business School and leadership training at the United States Army War College.
