Not All Glamour

I've often talked with members of Congress and other politicians about the silliness of their pathological fear of being voted out of office. When an elected official loses, usually he or she finds political afterlife quite pleasant, often making far more money working as a lobbyist.

But not every such story has a happy ending. Charlie Stenholm, a longtime Democratic congressman who lost his seat as a result of the infamous Texas mid-decade redistricting, now spends his time representing that popular constituency, horse slaughterers.
