Ferguson Picks a New City Manager

The City Council has selected De'Carlon Seewood as Ferguson city manager.

The City Council has selected De'Carlon Seewood as Ferguson city manager.

The selection of Seewood, an East St. Louis native who is a former assistant Ferguson city manager, was announced in a press release Tuesday evening. He most recently served as village manager for Richton Park, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

"Mr. Seewood has over 20 years of governmental experience and we believe his vision and commitment to the city of Ferguson will be a great asset to our residents, business owners and other stakeholders," Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III said in the release. "He has a proven track record of being fiscally responsible, while also managing governmental affairs in a timely and efficient manner."

The release credits Seewood with helping to create a redevelopment plan for downtown to revitalize the business community, establishing a streetscape plan and assisting with the development of the farmers market while he was with the city from 2001-2007. In his new post, he will be paid $110,000.

Seewood says he plans "to be a voice for residents and to work with the mayor and City Council to bridge the gap for everyone who wants to see our city succeed."

He was among three finalists for the job who were introduced at a public meeting last month. More than 40 people had applied for the top appointed post in the city, which saw months of turmoil after a police officer fatally shot Michael Brown in August 2014.
