The two capital programs are funded through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). About $629 million will go to 171 existing health centers for long-term projects that will expand their facilities, allowing the centers to serve more patients. HHS estimates that an additional 860,000 people will gain access to health care as a result of the projects.
Another $99 million will pay for facility and equipment upgrades at 227 community health centers, according to HHS.
