The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is pumping $728 million into community health centers nationwide, facilitating construction and renovation projects, the department announced Tuesday.

The two capital programs are funded through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). About $629 million will go to 171 existing health centers for long-term projects that will expand their facilities, allowing the centers to serve more patients. HHS estimates that an additional 860,000 people will gain access to health care as a result of the projects.

Another $99 million will pay for facility and equipment upgrades at 227 community health centers, according to HHS.

The full list of Building Capacity grants and Immediate Facility Improvement grants, broken down by state, can be found on the Health Resources and Services Administration's website.
