New York City CIO Anne Roest says the city faces two key challenges with its technology workforce: recruiting a new generation of workers to replace retiring employees, and preparing IT staff to cope with rapidly and constantly changing technologies. Those pressures are driving New York City's Department of Technology and Telecommunications to launch new career development initiatives for existing workers and increase efforts to attract new IT talent. Roest talked about how her department is dealing with these issues in an interview during Government Technology’s New York City Technology Forum.

Jessica Mulholland is the associate editor of GOVERNING, and is also the associate editor of both Government Technology and Public CIO magazines.
