Barrels of “estimated undiscovered technically recoverable” oil lying below federal lands, along with 391.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, according to a new report from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). About half of the recoverable oil, 14.5 billion barrels, and a quarter of the recoverable gas, 111 trillion cubic feet, is in Alaska, according to the USGS report, which comes as the Trump administration is pushing for expanded oil development on federal territory.
