That’s how many iconic, illuminated pylons are being temporarily removed from the entrance of Los Angeles International Airport as part of a roadway overhaul aimed at easing congestion ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Installed in 2000, the pylons have become one of LAX’s most recognizable visual signatures, greeting more than 1.2 billion travelers over the years and shifting colors to mark holidays and major events. Airport officials say the structures will be reimagined and reinstalled after construction wraps up, as Los Angeles World Airports reconfigures miles of roadway to deliver a less congested, more modern arrival experience.
