Utah Primary: Handful of Local Races Up for Grabs

Republican state Sen. Evan Vickers is expected to face a stiff challenge from former lawmaker Casey Anderson in his southern Utah district in one of seven contested legislative races during Tuesday’s primary election.

Another closely watched race comes in Utah County, where voters will choose between incumbent Dana Layton and former lawmaker Brad Daw in a rematch of the 2012 Republican primary. Voters also will select candidates for Davis County sheriff and Utah County and Washington County attorneys.

Across the state, turnout is expected to be light across in part because each party’s candidates for the state’s four congressional seats, attorney general and dozens of state legislative races were already decided at party conventions in late April.
