Judge Recuses Himself from Virginia AG Recount

Bradley B. Cavedo, chief judge at the Richmond Circuit Court, has recused himself from heading the special court that will oversee the recount in the attorney general’s race.

Bradley B. Cavedo, chief judge at the Richmond Circuit Court, has recused himself from heading the special court that will oversee the recount in the attorney general’s race.

Cavedo filed his paperwork Wednesday - the same day Mark D. Obenshain, the Republican candidate who trails behind Democrat Mark R. Herring by 165 votes, petitioned for the recount, Chief Deputy Clerk Ed Jewett said Monday.

The three-judge panel will now be headed by Richmond Circuit Court Judge Beverly W. Snukals. Cavedo did not cite a reason for his action, but has long had close ties to Obenshain’s family.
