Christie, Buono Clash Sharply in First Gubernatorial Debate

Gov. Chris Christie and Democratic challenger Barbara Buono clashed sharply tonight on everything from unemployment to gay marriage to Hurricane Sandy in a contentious first televised debate.

Gov. Chris Christie and Democratic challenger Barbara Buono clashed sharply tonight on everything from unemployment to gay marriage to Hurricane Sandy in a contentious first televised debate.

With polls showing her trailing by as many as 33 percentage points heading into the Nov. 5 election, Buono — a state senator from Middlesex County — was more pointed in her attacks.

Asked if she could name something she liked about Christie, Buono responded: "He's good on late-night television, but bad for New Jersey."
