A bill allowing the sale and purchase of beer, wine and spirits on Sunday passed this legislative session after Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy expressed support for the concept, according to the Courant. And Sunday marked the first day that the new rule went into effect.
As Governing reported in its April issue, Sunday liquor sales have made a comeback in recent years as social mores have eased and lawmakers have been swayed by the financial incentives. 15 states have repealed bans on Sunday alcohol sales in the last decade.
Bans on hard liquors persist in 13 states, but until this weekend, Connecticut and Indiana were the only two states to ban all alcohol transactions on Sundays.
