Wis. Lawmakers Approve "Castle Doctrine"

The Wisconsin state legislature has approved the so-called "Castle Doctrine" which allows homeowners to kill an intruder on their property without fear of prosecution, the Associated Press reports.

The bill creates a presumption of legal immunity if someone kills or injures someone breaking into his or her home, vehicle or place of work. It requires a judge to assume that the use of deadly force was necessary to avoid harm, according to the AP.

The legislature passed the bill 71-24 on Friday. It now goes to Gov. Scott Walker's desk for his signature or veto.
