The number of California state workers that would be exempt from mandated furloughs under a Senate-approved bill. The bill would exempt state employees who work in departments that get at least 95 percent of their budget money from sources other than the state's general fund, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Employment Development Department. The measure also exempts tax processing agencies.
