The increased risk of premature death caused by loneliness, according to a new study that also associated poor social relationships with a greater risk of stroke and heart disease. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted feelings of loneliness across the nation, with Americans spending about 20 minutes a day in person with friends in 2020 compared to 60 minutes daily spent nearly two decades earlier.
