Raymond V. Mariano

Contributor

Raymond V. Mariano has served since 2003 as the executive director of the Worcester, Mass., Housing Authority, which under his leadership has been recognized as a "High Performer" by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A former four-term mayor of Worcester, he grew up in the same public housing developments he now manages.

Mariano launched his political career in the early 1970s, joining the Worcester School Committee and then the City Council. He has worked on three Democratic presidential campaigns and as a political consultant has advised local, state and national candidates. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Clark University.

It doesn't have to be home to an endless, multi-generational cycle of poverty.
