Steve Westly, who served from 2003 to 2007 as California's controller and chief financial officer, is the founder and managing partner of The Westly Group, one of North America's largest energy, utility and sustainability focused venture capital firms. Before running for office, Westly served in a number of business positions including as a senior vice president of eBay.

Westly began his career in Washington, D.C., where he worked on Capitol Hill and at the Department of Energy. He later become special assistant to the president of the California Public Utilities Commission. While there, he published two books on alternative energy and utilities.

Westly hold a a bachelor's degree and an MBA from Stanford University, where he served as a lecturer for five years.

Our enemies will fight us in cyberspace, threatening the power-generating facilities and other critical systems we depend on. Government could be doing a lot more to fend off debilitating attacks.
