Michael Jacobson is the deputy director for performance and strategy in the King County, Wash., Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget, where he has led the development of key elements of the county's performance management system. His contributions to the field were recognized in 2013 with the American Society for Public Administration's Harry Hatry Distinguished Performance Measurement Practice Award, and in 2019 he was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Jacobson holds a bachelor's degree in biology and environmental studies from Trinity College and master's degrees in marine affairs and international studies from the the University of Washington.

The decisions governments are making to cope with the spread of the coronavirus will disproportionately impact low-income communities. These decisions need to be made through an equity lens.
