Seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates for September indicate 25 states experienced a monthly decrease, while numbers jumped in 14 other states.
The largest monthly declines were in Louisiana and Minnesota, where rates fell by 0.3 percent.
The most significant unemployment rate hikes for the month were reported in Mississippi and Oklahoma, which are now at 10.6 and 5.9 percent, respectively.
Nevada's unemployment rate remained unchanged and is still the highest in the country at 13.4 percent. The state was followed by California (11.9), Washington, D.C., (11.1), Michigan (11.1), and South Carolina (11.0).
The national unemployment rate has held steady at 9.1 percent for the past three months.
