The Oakland Public Library is making available online historic images from its collection -- 200 to start.

Most are of local buildings and bridges as they used to look, but you can also see a Depression-era bread line, Buffalo Bill parading through town on his 1910 farewell tour and Ida L. Jackson, the first black teacher in the city's schools.

Are many public libraries doing this sort of thing? If not, why not?
